  How Far Apart Were Your Legs?

  several threads on here about the excellent bbc r4 programme this week ('the report') focussing on rape and abuse in barry, south wales, jws.

  fat pervert mark sewell later got 14 years and i hope he is enjoying every minute of it.. the courageous ladies who spoke on the programme were articulate, reasonable and made a tremendous impression.. the quote in the thread title made an impression on me, and i hope, on all listeners.. forget religious, theological, 'biblical' issues and cut to the basics.

  a rape victim was asked to demonstrate - to demonstrate, ffs - to three unqualified (middle-aged at least, presumably) men just how far her legs were apart when she was raped.. i have rarely heard anything so outrageous, and i used to investigate rape and abuse in my profession.

  Thank you conceptual99, I remembered the same thing, "that there is no need to go into "needless details, especially in regard to sexual matters."

  In some congregations, the elders did not go into detail. It is infuriating that other men have done this. The fact that they questioned kids w/o their parents is maddening.

  That is why you need to have people trained to deal with child abuse, not people without a safeguard, not having to answer to 'the law.'

  'Isn't this when things go bad, when you have an organization that polices itself inhouse"?

  Remember, though, "It's God's organization... who else better to handle this than the ones who will soon rule God's kingdom? Let's do what the organization tells us to do, and call the Legal Department first"

  When I was young, after reading the WT about "Did you scream" and how you would die at Armageddon if you didn't, I was really terrified of what might happen to me.

  I thought of all these scenarios, and how I could escape them alive..... Like, what if a rapist had a knife to my throat, I could feel the blade cutting into my skin... Am I really going to scream?

  I thought "If Rahab can lie to the men trying to find the spies," and she is a hero, 'I can lie to the rapist, "sure, this is fun, I won't tell"' and then turn him into the police so he can't hurt another person in their life!

  The WTBTS is an evil organization! Many parents do not know the thought loops their children must go through when they hear this type of thing, "YOU MUST SCREAM" , at the meetings.

  why dis-associate, you are just playing by the wts rules?

  how can you dis-associate anyway, you never thought you were baptised as a watchtower society member, you thought your dedication was to god, so why formally disassociate from something you did not formally join?

  I think sending letters to the BOE is a waste of time, especially now in 2015.

  ANYTHING that says "I don't want...." is, and can be construed as, "Pull the bar down, drop 'em" (Like when the floor opens, and you drop, haha) This borganization has become like a heartless machine. Elders go to elders school to learn "rules."

  I simply don't go to meetings, and my mom treats me in a self righteous business type of way. "Yes, any thing else?" as if she has only met me a few days ago.

  im going by memory, so not an exact quote...i believe this was around 2002, at the crownsville assembly hall (now sold from what i understand)..

  he said basically: some people watch an hour show and give up the faith that theyve had for decades..

  the impact of this show was like a canon being shot into a swimming pool.

  cognac: They do not "say it".... but all the cases I have read about child abuse, people are treated as IF they are DF'd, because they "are bringing reproach upon Jehovah's name."... they have brought shame to the congregation...

  Not written, but you can hear the same phrases uttered everywhere.... Phrases are repeated in WT's, asked like a question instead of a demand, "Would WE want to bring reproach on Jehovah's organization? No, we love Jehovah"

  People who testified, telling the truth at trials. were DF'd at the end of the trial. Not until the end... o/w the WT lawyers could be accused of messing with the trial, after all, the WT lawyers ARE part of "Jehovah's LOVING worldwide organization" and if anything is wrong with it "Jehovah can read their hearts" and "Jehovah will straighten it out in his own due time." I heard, and still do hear these phrases over an over.

  People who tell the truth, and testify in trials are charged with "speaking abusively of the glorious ones," or "brazen" in their conduct, and DF'd. Barbara Anderson was DF'd right before she went on TV..... Why? all because she told the truth!

  Perhaps this will inspire Britain to take the first step towards examining the 'charity' status of the WTBTS! The reporter and the victims were 'spot on' in their comments, all the dots got connected in a great way. I like how the father of the abuse victim, who had been an elder for many, many years, explained how he could no longer support an organization that acted in this manner. How can the victims be treated as 'the enemy'? Great report!

  it's getting to the point where cnn should start announcing "breaking news" if there *hasn't* been a mass shooting !.

  it's crazy.. i was watching the 70's documentary they are running and that's the point when media hype about mass serial killers seemed to begin the danger-gun-solution hype cycle.

  sure, people had guns before then but nowhere near like it is now.. when will it end?

  Personally, I have often pondered what Simon and VillageIdiot expressed above.

  Sometimes I think that all the details that are given to crimes (though, I would not like to fall victim to the ones that trick you, and want to be aware) give ideas to people. People who may be likely to do something anyway.... but get bigger and better ideas thru the news media.

  the talk was bs.speaker used an example of how god provides some 60 pounds of fish per week to some bird.in that case god does not care about the life of fish.who will provide my daily rations?

  can i go to a store and take my food?

  can i rely on god in my old age (does not the wbts give the boot to co over 70).

  Exactly, bobld! The WT takes an illustration, splits it, spins it, twists it, and asks, "and don't we all love that?" .... waiting for the applause.

  That is why it is so frustrating. No real thinking allowed.

  Soylent Green, describes this type of 'oligarchy' (rule by a few) where the old and homeless are ground up for food..... and become the 'soylent green' to nurish the rest.

  So too the WT... While the R&F give their lives to the 'greater good', the WTBTS and the seven men in NY, live in a world that has no regard for the rest.

  I liked the part where Wendy (the married woman who was raped) replied back to the elders, 'yes, there WERE two witnesses to this man's sexual abuse'

  The elders, however, maintained that "No, since one person was a minor, and one was an adult, it doesn't count" OMG!

  Both of the women who commented were very rational and believable. Also, it shows that even the father (who at first just didn't LIKE what had happened, but stayed with the witnesses) could eventually leave when he saw the discord & disharmony, and the lack of love.

  After all, isn't that what this organization is suppose to be all about?
